Buckley At His Best
Blue Afternoon: Tim Buckley
(Straight STS 1060)

By Don Heckman

Tim Buckley is one of the most underrated, and one of the most gifted, of today's young songwriter-singers. He's made good records before, but this one is by far and away his best to date - a crystal-clear distillation of the many eclectic elements which make up his talent.

Eight songs are included, all Buckley originals, and they run the gamut from folky blues to sensual, jazz-tinged improvisations. Buckley's accompanying group is superb- perfectly understanding and perfectly responsive to the subtle undercurrents of Buckley's music.

Like most truly satisfying experiences, Blue Afternoon falls short of accurate verbal description. Listen, and hear for yourself.
