Feature Film - Candy

Candy (2006)
Abbie Cornish, Heath Ledger, Geoffrey Rush. Directed by Neil Armfield

An Australian man falls in love with two kinds of Candy: a woman of the same name and heroin. The narrator changes from a smart-aleck to someone trying to find a vein to inject, while Candy changes from an actress, call girl, streetwalker, and then a madwoman. Starting in Sydney, the two eventually end up in Melbourne to go clean, but they fail. This leads them to turn to finding money and heroin, while other posessions and attachments become unimportant.

Candy was named best screenplay by the Australia Film Institute, and was nominated in seven other categories in Australia, as well as in other international events.

An innovative use of Tim Buckley's Song to the Siren in a film that used two versions - the first from Australian singer Paula Arundell over the opening credits (see below), as well as Tim's original from the Starsailor album that plays over the final scene.
